Like all other land mounts, the grand expedition yak only requires apprentice riding (which requires level 20 to learn) to use. In other words, this mount can be used by level 20 players and up. Level 85 is apparently (like the journeyman riding skill) only required for buying it,.
No rep is required to purchase one. Price for the regular riding yaks is 3k gold (2. 7 with guild perk; Goblin racial does not work since there is no rep).
You can hear the ornaments dangling from their horns and saddle scrape lightly when you move around (but it's not constant so don't worry it does not become annoying). These beasts of burden are known to carry over five times their own weight and to be capable of lasting several days without food or water. This mount is available to all eligible characters on your account.

Unfortunately, they were confirmed by blue post to not be the pandaren racial mount. The [tuft of yak fur], while not an actual mount using the item summons an enormous yak mount. This item has a 100% chance to drop from pengsong in dread wastes, and can drop randomly from any yak mob on timeless isle.
