True, you can make heavy armor as weightless as light armor in the skill tree, but that's just a waste of your perk points. Tib196 8 years ago #4. Unless you refuse to use smithing both will eventually hit the armor cap and be weightless.
It's more about which one will perform better earlier in the game before you can hit the armor cap. Plus most of the heavy armor appearances look more badass and intimidating imho, like for example: Full set of ancient nord, steel plate, orcish, ebony, nordic carved, dragonbone, dawnguard, bonemold, daedric, and stalhrim armor.
There's some pretty cool light armors too like: Fur, scaled, glass, and chitin, but my personal favorite would most. You can get either to armor cap by having smithing, enchanting, and alchemy at 100 and making potions and gear to fortify smithing.
But i would use heavy since it takes a while to get armor cap and heavy armor is strongest. Also, with the perks in their trees, you can make either pure awesomeness. But i would use heavy armor.
Heavy armor in the elder scrolls v: Skyrim has similar advantages to light armor, but there are some key differences that give it its own pros and cons. Skyrim is a harsh world, and oftentimes the best insurance policy is to put on the thickest plate mail and the most durable shield that gold can buy.
Having a low armor rating in skyrim is dangerous, and leaves players. Heavy armor is a skill in the elder scrolls v: Heavy armor typically weighs more than light armor, injuring speed and carrying capacity at the offset of added protection.
Penalties to speed and carrying capacity can be countered using the steed stone, consuming potions of. Instead i would argue it comes down to. Light armour doesn’t affect your movement as much, heavy armour gives better protection and hits the cap faster.
Once you get high enough smithing and enchantments (and maybe do the restoration loop), the differences in the armour types ultimately come down to cosmetic. Ordinator flips it from vanilla. Light armor is busted in vanilla, whereas in ordi they can both become busted, just heavy armor more so.
In my experience heavy armor is usually better. Some of the damage reduction perks are insane when stacked with the armor cap (especially the 30% power attack reduction). I prefer light armor, because the rate at which higher quality gear in elder scrolls gets heavier is ridiculous, & the heavy armor (& weapons) side of the tree is ridiculous (i generally just stack up a bunch of buffs & run around in elven ['cos i always restart before i acquire morag tong, or rarely just imperial light [though i really, really, really wish there was a vanilla, dlc, or cc.
Heavy armor will let you survive better early on, but light armor is much better late, especially if you get the deathbrand armor from solstheim. Light armor + heavy shield. So i'm completely decked out in light armor and taking advantage of the custom fit light armor skill.
I get a 25% armor bonus if wearing all light armor, however it does not mention if the shield counts towards this. Only says (head, chest, hands, feet). The best skyrim heavy armor daedric armor defense:
Skyrim’s light armor is a bit more interesting, as many of the best sets come with a range of perks and enchantments. Some enemies, especially later on, are able to ignore a percentage of armor with their attacks. This is where the extra armor buffer from heavy armor comes in handy.
With heavy armor you can stay at the cap even if your opponent is able to ignore some armor. Light armor weighs less and makes looting easier since you are less likely to be over encumbered. Light armor gives a slight advantage while sneaking.
Leather armor is easy to make and easy to upgrade early on in the game. Light armor is inexpensive. Light armor is inferior in every way.
Anything light armor can do, heavy armor can do better. More defense and any special light armor enchantments can easily be added to heavy armor as well. If you want to sneak, throw on a sneak/muffle enchantment.
Fall damage is meaningless in this game as you can get the ethereal shout very early on. Heavy armor is the skill governing your ability to move and fight in heavy armor. Each skill point increases your armor rating from heavy armor by 0. 4% (1. 5% for npcs).
The heavy armor skill tree has a total of 8 perks, requiring a total of 12 perk points to fill. Those trained to use heavy armor make more efficient.
