The latest game patch has added a brand new interactive feature to the game. Monsters under the bed are a new nocturnal “friend” that visits your child sims during the night. Monsters will randomly appear between 6pm and 6am while children are asleep.
Certain traits like the “gloomy” trait are more likely. I love this monster under the bed. I know this isn't on topic since the question was answered, but it reminds me of when my kids were little.
My daughter was the youngest and when she was about 5, her brothers would hide under her bed at night when she was sleeping and start making noises to scare her. The monster does not appear. You don't need a particular trait, no.
It just has to be a child sim and they have to be in a single bed and it has to be night (after 8pm i believe). You also have to be controlling the child sim to see the monsters, as teen+ can't see them. Supernatural, the player can direct a playable child to check for monsters underneath a bed.

I bought the night lights and so far so good! Double check there are no night lights in the room! And if you have mccc, make sure that you have the no monster under the bed option turned off.

@ladysweettart i've had a few sim children make friends with that monster. i'm so over it now it's not even funny. It just got to be annoying having every generation, every kid, constantly wake up the household in the middle of the night. Still, it's cool it's in the game, because i had fun with the whole make friends with the monster for a while.
The monster under the bed in the sims 4 is a really fun addition to the childhood life stage and can really help make your child aged sims feel real. However, the monster under the bed can cause your sims to wake up, and wake up every sim in the entire house so it’s important to understand how the monster works and how to get rid of it. Simmers generally hate it, and only the experienced ones know how to ward the monster off and shut it down.
