Arthur morgan is the pinnacle of rockstar’s character crafting as he's more realistic than any character who has come before him. In many ways, red dead redemption 2 is more or less a character study of arthur. Throughout the game’s six chapters, arthur develops quite a bit more than john ever did.
He has a rich arc full of ups and downs. When you finish the game, you can explore the world as john marston. There is a conversation between abigail and jack where jack brings up that he has memories of the family’s time with the van der linde gang but doesn’t remember much due.
Red dead redemption 2 shows just how far both arthur morgan and john marston were willing to follow dutch van der linde, and while both characters eventually met their breaking point it was arthur who made sure john was safe first. The ring john uses to propose to abigail is arthur's old wedding ring, and after arthur dies john begins journaling in an effort to. Arthur had a code and secrecy was a big part of it. He wouldn't have made it 20 years if he had been shooting any enemy he had and announced himself to the world as arthur morgan. Jack hall and otis miller are the most renowned outlaws.

As others gave stated there us no mention of arthur. But john was always very vague about his past throughout red dead redemption. He gives the barest of details to everyone.
He tells people that he was in a gang with dutch, bill and javier, they left him for dead in a botched robbery and he left the gang.
