I m using a dual t16000 setup. Dual joystick is much better than hotas. Thrustmaster uses the target software with scripts for the correct mapping of the axis and buttons.
Windows has a problem to tell the two sticks apart from another. Might be the problem even with two different sticks. Look on the bottom of your sticks, there's a switch.
So i’ve been thinking about getting into elite dangerous and am considering buying dual joysticks. However, from the videos i’ve watched people say that it’s possible to achieve all six degrees of freedom on two sticks, using only analogue input. I don’t understand how this is possible because each stick only has an x axis and a y axis.
I prefer having the up / down thrust being on the vertical axis. The final solution was to just pick up some rudder pedals and use that for forward and reverse. I do enjoy the dual stick setup.
I have a dual stick setup. T16000 on the left, ch fighterstick on the right. The left stick has vertical / horizontal thrusters on the y/x, and roll on twist.
Pitch and yaw are on the y/x of the right stick. 0% throttle on the button below. Elite dangerous is a space simulator game by frontier developments based in the year 3307.
By far the best setup for elite is, amazingly enough, also pretty much the cheapest: The logitech 3d pro stick, coupled with the incredible 22+ year old ch pro throttle. The stick has twist, so it removes the requirements for pedals, and adds yet another analog axis with the thumb stick on the ch pro.

I'm strongly considering building a dual joystick setup (t16000 on left and vkb gladiator on right) most dual stick setups i see seem to rely on pedals for thrust, and the left stick for laterals and verticals. I'm thinking about buying a dual joystick and pedals set up but that only controls 5 axis. Where do you put the 6th?
In my case, i'm not sure where. For example, button 2 on my right stick is my targeting input, so i can hold down right stick button 2 and press left stick hat up to target ahead, down to target highest threat, or left/right to cycle targets. I can do the same for right stick button 3 (sensors and fsd), button 4 (utilities), and button 6 (weapons).
